Botswana Equity Markets | 7 Sept 2015: Botswana equity markets bearish sentiment continues, STANCHART drops -40bps….
Gaborone, Botswana, Capital Markets in Africa — The Botswana Stock Exchange Equity Markets showed further bearish sentiment today as the continuing downward trend in the DCI, LASI and DFSI slowed, amidst price drops and STANCHART recording the highest volumes against a decrease of 40 points.
The Botswana Domestic Composite Index (DCI) was down by 12.00 points to close at 10,828.55 points falling by 0.11 percent from its previous close of 10,840.61 points.
Likewise, the Local Asset Sector Index (LASI) recorded a downward change after the days trading closing at 798.00 down 0.13 points from its previous close of 798.13 a change of -0.02% (LASI is made up of the domestic companies and all foreign companies awarded the local asset status by the Ministry of Finance and development planning).
The Foreign Composite Index (FCI) continued to remain flat recording a slight downward change of 0.04 points after the days trading closing at 1569.17 down from its previous close of 1569.21 points.
The Domestic financial Sector index (DFSI) which is composed of all domestic financial sector companies ended at 1241.61 points recording a downward change of -1.08 points or decreasing -0.09 percent after the days trading.
The market capitalisation also decreased by BWP 75.61 million settling at BWP 421,469.40 million at the end of the day’s session with the Domestic Equity Main Board accounting for BWP 51,330.75 million and the Foreign Equity Main Board accounting for BWP 370,148.65 million.
From a market activity perspective, the total daily volume settled at 87,504 shares traded which were exchanged from the 24,228 million Securities issued bringing the total turnover of those shares traded on the domestic and foreign main boards to BWP 399,744.02 million.
Leading the market activity in terms of the traded volumes were STANCHART which recorded volume figures of 13,299 followed by SEFALANA with 11,444 points and Barclays with 4,549.
In terms of price gainers and price losers there was one price gainer and two price losers today leaving market breadth negative, BIHL was up 1 point to close at BWP 1441 per share conversely, CHOPPIES was down 1 point to close at BWP 499 per share and STANCHART was down 40 points to close at BWP 1200 per share.
